چکیده

Information Integration is a young and exciting field with enormous research and commercial significance in the new world of the Information Society. It stands at the crossroad of Databases and Artificial Intelligence requiring novel techniques that bring together different methods from these fields. Information from disparate heterogeneous sources often with no apriori common schema needs to be synthesized in a flexible, transparent and intelligent way in order to respond to the demands of a query thus enabling a more informed decision by the user or application program. The field although relatively young has already found many practical applications particularly for integrating information over the World Wide Web. This paper gives a brief introduction of the field highlighting some of the main current and future research issues and application areas. It attempts to evaluate the current and potential role of Computational Logic in this and suggests some of the problems where logic-based techniques could be used.

J un 2 00 1 Logic of Dynamics & Dynamics of Logic ; Some Paradigm Examples Bob

The development of operational quantum logic points out that classical boolean structures are too rigid to describe the actual and potential properties of quantum systems. Operational quantum logic bears upon basic axioms which are motivated by empirical facts and as such supports the dynamic shift from classical to non-classical logic resulting into a dynamics of logic. On the other hand, a dy...

Within the program of finding axiomatizations for various parts of computability logic, an earlier article proved that the logic of interactive Turing reduction is exactly the implicative fragment of Heyting's intuitionistic calculus. That sort of reduction permits unlimited reusage of the computational resource represented by the antecedent. An at least equally basic and natural sort of algori...

A Bayesian approach is developed to determine quantum mechanical potentials from empirical data. Bayesian methods, combining empirical measurements and a priori information, provide flexible tools for such empirical learning problems. The paper presents the basic theory, concentrating in particular on measurements of particle coordinates in quantum mechanical systems at finite temperature. The ...

Model Selection for Simplicial Approximation

In the computational geometry field, simplicial complexes have been used to describe an underlying geometric shape knowing a point cloud sampled on it. In this article, an adequate statistical framework is first proposed for the choice of a simplicial complex among a parametrized family. A least squares penalized criterion is introduced to choose a complex, and a model selection theorem states ...

un 2 00 4 Gauge theory , topological strings , and S - duality Anton Kapustin

We offer a physical derivation of the duality between the topological U(1) gauge theory on a Calabi-Yau 3-fold and the topological string theory on the same manifold. This duality was conjectured recently by Iqbal, Nekrasov, Okounkov, and Vafa. We deduce it from the S-duality of the IIB superstring.
